Sri Lanka to uplift healthcare facilities in Jaffna

People of the Jaffna District in Northern Sri Lanka are to receive substantially better healthcare facilities, the government said yesterday.

The year five scholarship examination was successfully held on Sunday(23 Aug). Over 295 thousand candidates sat for the examination in 2,602 centres Islandwide.

Fire destroys 20 houses in Sri Lanka hill country

A sudden fire that broke out yeterday evening in Lindula area of Talawakele in Sri Lanka hill country destroyed nearly 20 houses, police reported.

'Murali goes beyond the 15-degree'

Mark Richardson, the former New Zealand Test opener, has reopened the question over Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling action by saying that he was convinced many of his deliveries were well beyond the 15-degree allowance approved by lawmakers. Richardson said he did not blame Murali for the situation but felt the ICC was not doing enough to police throwing in cricket. New Zealand are touring Sri Lanka for two Tests, two Twenty20s and an ODI tri-series.
