The main road (A9) that links Vavuniya and Trincomalee towns were reopened after a lapse of many years. With this reopening, the four-hour journey between the two towns can now be made in half that time. The road remained closed due to threats from the LTTE. The road reopening took place in the presence of minister Tissa Karaliyadde and north central province chief minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake.
