Yesterday was the last day for send nominations to the Uva Provicial Council Election - 2009. The two district secretariats in the Uva Province, Badulla, and Monaragala confirmed that they have received nominations from 21 recognized political parties and 8 independent groups.
According to the Badulla Retaining Officer they have received nominations from 11 recognized political parties and 3 independent groups while 8 recognized political parties and 5 independent groups have submitted their nominations for the Monaragala District.
The government dissolved the Uva PC in May before its term expires in August.
