Ministry of Sports and Public Recreation decided to bequeath two baby elephants from Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to Rajamaha Viharayas under both Malwathu and Asgiri chapters. "Malwathu Asgiri chapters are centers of social, cultural and religious renaissance in Sri Lanka, and there is a severe shortage of tamed elephants which faithfully taken part in religious processions for many years."03 July 2009
